Prescriptive Manicures: What are they & why should you, the nail professional, offer them?

Everyone is talking about prescriptive manicures & this is something I have offered to my clients since 2021 & you should be doing it too to stand out

WHAT is a prescriptive manicure?! In short, it's a manicure using a product or system that is BEST SUITED to each individual client. Because we're all different, right? It is not a one system suits all, and you would have seen that with your clients... some get weeks with no lifting, others can have the same products, same prep, BUT the nails just don't last!

I see so much conflicting information being taught, available online and blasted in our faces on social media. Some say you should stick to a 1 or 2 nail systems such as gel and builder gel, be that 'natural nail' nail tech. Which is fine, but what you are doing is limiting your own skills, knowledge & clients.

Some say you should provide everything and be able to offer each client exactly what they need.

Here's my take on it:

A nail professional is someone who is qualified in all areas of nails right from gel polish manicure through to acrylic, with a sound understanding of what each nail system is, it's strengths and WHO it would be best suited to.

As a nail professional offering prescriptive manicures, from your consultation with your client you should know what nail type they have paired with their lifestyle, which nail product/system would suit that client best. If you DON'T know this, and you're using gel polish or builder gel and it doesn't last... you'll lose that client to another nail tech who does work with other products and can give your client long lasting nails.

I have offered my clients prescriptive manicures since 2021, and it isn't something I see many nail technicians offering.. If you've not yet offering all systems & know exactly what systems would suit each nail type it's time you did so that you can stand out in your area as the EXPERT (who can then charge expert prices!)
